The body of the program is free, but you are offered to pay for all sorts of useful additional commercial modules (Coloured Inversion, Deep steering, Velocity Model...). Capabilities of the basic system (this basic package has a lot of capabilities that are not available even in commercial programs - for example, 3D data visualization in SMT Kingdom Suite is many times worse than in OpendTect, although Kingdom is now one of the most popular interpretation packages on): joint visualization of 2D/3D seismic data; various methods of tracking 2D/3D horizons, including auto-picking; calculation and visualization of various attributes and filters 'on the fly'; multiplatform (Linux, Windows, Solaris); modular architecture.
