.1209 PyroSim is a user interface for the Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) program. The FDS field model can predict the spread of smoke, temperature, carbon monoxide and other hazards during a fire. Modeling results are used to support building safety design, determine the safety of existing buildings, reconstruct fires in investigations, and assist in firefighter training. FDS is a powerful fire modeling tool developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). FDS simulates fire scenarios using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) optimized for low-velocity, temperature-dependent flows. This approach appears to be very flexible and can be applied to a variety of fires, ranging from furnace fires to oil tanker fires.
